Val Thorens, France
This hotel opens its door this week with new owners and a completely new look. The new owners are two couples with children themselves and know how a hotel needs to be organised to cater for families, so every room is large with the possibility of an extra bed.
The hotel is in an ideal spot, in a quiet part of Val Thorens but ski in/ski out and 100 metres from the ski school meeting point.
The designers have aimed to create a “home from home” ambiance with a touch of affordable luxury, and with the focus on design and comfort. The effect is a contemporary, chalet-style atmosphere which is bound to appeal to couples, groups of friends and families alike.
Facilities here include a trendy wine bar Le Zinc (live music three times a week), where there’s a wide choice when it comes to quality wine, with over 150 choices on the menu! Served surrounded by the bistro’s stylish vintage décor, wine tasting is accompanied by cheeses, cured meats and specialities to share; a separate quiet chalet-style lounge, two south facing terraces with superb views (the upper one for the restaurant, the lower one to grab a quick lunch on deckchairs), wellness area with steam room, sauna and ice bed (included) and treatments (supplement payable locally), games room (available only during French school holidays) and 2 restaurants.
Half board includes 6 dinners at the La Rôtisserie restaurant and 1 dinner at the Cheese and Wine Bar, serving Savoyard specialities (pre-bookable on arrival).
Each of the 107 bedrooms, with either resort or piste view, is very comfortable and tastefully decorated and furnished in contemporary style. Each has satellite TV, coffee maker, safe, free wifi and bath or shower room with hairdryer and wc.
