Les Carroz is the village you pass on your way up to Flaine but many these days don’t pass the village, but stay in this pretty Alpine village with great ski links to the whole of Grand Massif and a much nicer ambience than Flaine. An addeed bonus is that when it’s snow stormy, Les Carroz is protected by tree’s enabling skiing with full vision (something I hugely appreciated one awful snowy day!)
Skiing: Grand Massif
The Grand Massif is exceptionally varied and huge fun. The real bonus is that it’s often far quieter than it’s over packed neighbours, like Avoriaz or Chamonix. With 265km of piste it is actually the fourth largest ski area in France and the seventh in the World.
Les Carroz is charming and you can always ski back to the villageand although there’s not much of a nightlife the chalet company more than make up for this and will show you many a lovely bar or restraurant. During the day you must find out where the hidden off piste restaurants are – they’re especially delicious and you are returned to the piste often by tow on a snow plough.
